When I remember that for centuries there have been great struggles for freedom and rights, I think of what I learned working with deaf people in the Venezuelan Sign Language community. When I lived in the community I not only learned to communicate with deaf people who could not speak, but also with deaf-blind people. The first time I saw a person who could not speak, hear or see, communication seemed impossible to me, but as time went by when I learned to communicate with them, it was very exciting and surprising, It showed me that even if nature or genetics deny us the means to communicate, we will always find a way to communicate with others, to transmit our thoughts and feelings, because freedom is part of human nature and nothing and no one can take it away from us.
